Frequently Asked Questions
Students must earn 30 secondary school credits to qualify for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma. The specific distribution of compulsory and optional credits depends on the year the student entered Grade 9: students entering Grade 9 in 2024 or later require 17 compulsory and 13 optional credits.
In addition to the required 30 credits, students must meet the provincial literacy graduation requirement, complete 40 hours of community involvement, and meet the online learning requirement unless exempted or opted out. Students entering Grade 9 in 2024 or later must also meet Ontario's Financial Literacy Graduation Requirement
The Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) is Ontario's official high school diploma. Students who successfully complete all required credits and graduation requirements receive the OSSD, which documents completion of Ontario secondary school education and can be used when applying to post-secondary programs, subject to each institution's admission requirements.
Students can begin by completing the OIA registration/application form and submitting the required academic and identification documents. The school reviews the student's previous education and Ontario Student Transcript, determines the credits and courses needed, and provides an appropriate academic pathway toward graduation. Students transferring from another school may receive credit recognition based on their previous learning and academic records.
